HOW TO: STYLE YOUR WEDDING

Feeling overwhelmed with all things wedding-related?!

Pinterest can be an incredible tool. It can also be super overwhelming.

Narrowing down your style.

There’s so much out there on the world wide web. If you have no idea where to start, start by classifying your dislikes, once you classified those, you’ll be able to see more clearly what you do like.

Which of these appeals to you? Classic, boho, vintage (choose an era), minimalist, mid-century modern, psychedelic, rock and roll, rustic, farmhouse, royalty inspired, hippy eclectic, etc.

Which location appeals to you? Desert, forest, ballroom, outdoor courtyard, beach/island, mountains, victorian tea house, winery, luxury hotel, destination/bucket list location, tropical jungle, backyard wedding, big open brewery, a converted artsy warehouse, etc.

How many guests will you have? Would you prefer the intimate elopement style wedding, a giant “invite everyone we know” guest list, or somewhere in between?

VENUE:

Is your venue very formal? Or more laidback?

DRESS:

Pick your dress based on how formal or informal your venue is to create a cohesive look.

SEASON:

Consider the weather. If you’re planning a Palm Springs wedding in the middle of summer, a long sleeve ball gown will be very HOT.

COLOR SCHEME:

Which most appeals to you?

Tones: Warm tones or cool tones?

It’s a good idea to have at least one neutrals color: White, greenery, browns, creams, beige, olive green, sky blue

Pops of colors ideas: All the colors of the rainbow (reds, purple, blue, green, yellow, orange)

Which do you favor? Pastels, bright and saturated colors, or darker colors.

Metallics: Silver, gold, rose gold?

BUDGET:

Be honest with yourself so you know exactly what works for you and what doesn’t.

Priorities:

List in order your priorities, sit down, and write out a budget for the things you want most.

Invest in your priorities first and skip what isn’t meaningful to you.

If your florals are the most important thing for you, invest your budget there. If you don’t care about the meal, go with a taco truck. If your dress is your most important priority and cake is not, make adjustments there.

Once you nail down these main points for yourself, you’ll know exactly what you’re looking for and you can HONE IN on what you want.

Keep your list handy.

Make a quick list as a reference. Use your answers from the questions above as reference when you’re browsing Etsy at 1 am so you don’t impulse buy something that’s beautiful but totally different from what your wedding’s “theme.”

This will make it super easy to choose your details for your cake, table decor, welcome table, dress, guest table, paper goods (such as program, cocktail napkins), wedding invites, thank you cards, gifts, etc.

Examples of Cohesive Wedding Themes:

The Boho Wedding: Lacy long sleeve dress, braids in her hair, open field for her venue, tablescape is full of macrame, greenery, terracotta accents everywhere, tiles as name cards, and peacock chairs at her sweetheart table, uses neutrals with pops of bright colors.

The Modern Wedding: Contemporary dress with unique cutouts, funky palm springs hotel for her venue, a fringe leather jacket for the after-party, booties instead of stilettos, DJ plays old records at the reception, used neutrals with pops of bold navy blue.

The Romantic Wedding: Ballgown dress, rhinestones everywhere, bejeweled crown in hair, bow ties for the boys, twinkly lights at night, tulle bridesmaid dresses, high heels, old school house for her wedding venue, uses neutrals with pops of light pink and baby blue.
